– JOE MORIARTY –

Biography: Joe Moriarty began his teaching career in Shelby, MT in 1982. He and his wife Marcy moved to Bozeman in 1988 where they have since resided. Joe worked in the Bozeman School District for 23 years, 16 of which were in the classroom teaching primarily middle school math, and the last 7 were in administration as the Assistant Principal of Sacajawea Middle School. In addition to his classroom duties, Joe was actively involved with the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics, an instructor of Traffic Education, and coached a variety of sports including; tennis, football and basketball. Joe retired from the Bozeman School District in June of 2012, but has continued in public education working as an adjunct professor at MSU, tutoring, public speaking, and educational consulting with the Office of Public instruction. As an Assistant Principal he was very much involved in student leadership and MBI Youth Days. He continues to do that work as a facilitator of the fall youth conferences and presenting the MBI model for behavior, academic achievement, and general school climate. As a graduate of Powell County High School, Joe is honored to be returning to his home town and speaking to the Powell County Chamber of Commerce.

Deer Lodge is well known for the paranormal events that take place at several locations in and around town, most noticeably at the Old Montana Prison.

Every Halloween, Deer Lodge ramps up the creepiness, but this year it doubles the horrors with some exceptional events.

Both the Old Prison Museum and Cutler Bros. Theater are holding their own Events this Halloween.

Cutler Bros Creepshow

First to open is the Cutler Bros. Creepshow “The Purge: Election Year” on Thursday October 27th at 7 pm, 8:30 pm and 10 pm. Tickets cost $10, a front row seat with T-Shirt is $15.  The Cutler Bros. Theater is at 301 Main Street. Creepshows continue on Friday 28th, Saturday 29th, Sunday 30th and Monday 31st. More info on the Cutler Bros. Facebook page

Old Montana Prison Haunted House

After a very successful opening weekend, the Old Montana Prison at 1106 Main Street continues their ‘Haunted House’ this Friday October 28th from 7 pm till midnight. Tickets cost $10, no one under the age of 12 is allowed in. The Haunted House continues on Saturday 29th, Sunday 30th and Monday 31st. More info on the Old Prison Museum Facebook page

‘The Magnificent Seven’ is showing at the Rialto on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 pm ($5 adults, $3 kids 11 and under)

Art Club Bazaar at the Pen Convention Center Art Gallery, 925 Main Street on Saturday from 8:30 am till 1 pm

‘MustDash’ Color Run at the Football Field on Saturday from 9 am

Annual Crafts and Gift Bazaar at the Church Annex at Fifth and California on Saturday

The Elks Mortgage Burning Ceremony at 230 Main Street on Saturday from 5 pm

Halloween Party, Costume Contest and Live Music at the Corner Bar on Saturday.

Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st from 1:45 pm

Trunk or Treat at the Deer Lodge Center, 1100 Texas Ave. on Monday from 3:30 pm till 5 pm (846-1655)

So, Deer Lodge is definitely the place to visit this Halloween. Come to Deer Lodge and have a wonderfully horrible time!

Deer Lodge is the place to visit this Sunday as we celebrate the Fall with our Scarecrow Contest, Pumpkin Sunday and Harvest Thyme Market.

All of the scarecrows are looking great this year. Don’t forget, judging starts on Sunday, after Pumpkin Sunday at Grant-Kohrs Ranch (1 pm  – 4 pm) and the Harvest Thyme Market (10 am – 4 pm) under the Grandstands at the Fairgrounds. All events are free to enter and view, so come down to Deer Lodge this Sunday and enjoy the festivities.

 As part of the City of Deer Lodge Economic Growth Policy, the Powell County Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the City of Deer Lodge presents the MTOTBD Branding Workshop.

Lonie Stimac from the Montana Office Of Tourism and Business Development will be making a quick introduction to the Montana Brand and then guiding us through some exercises in choosing a brand concept that best fits our area.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free workshop.
