Press Release: Powell County Senior Center
100 Missouri Ave.,  PO Box 365, Deer Lodge, MT 59722  – 406-846-3939

Can you believe this weather? Spring is almost here!
This time of the year brings a lot of important items to the table, some of them being that of supporting and helping others. The Powell County Senior Center, a Non Profit 501 C would like to ask you to consider a tax free donation to the center.
Our center, unlike many others around the state, does not receive any local tax dollars. We do receive a minimal amount from federal and state monies as we are contracted with them to provide the Meal on Wheels for our local seniors in need. However, the amount we get simply does not cover the costs. Therefore, our center relies on in house meals, support, and donations from generous people like you.
Donations are needed to help with the cost of building maintenance as well as upgrades on old worn out equipment. The center has been here for quite sometime now with little to no improvements or maintenance.
Donations also help cover the cost of meals for those over 60 that are not able to pay.

We would like to ask that you consider making a tax deductible donation to the center in order to help keep us up and running. The center has gone through a lot of change lately; new staff, management, board and practices have been put in place. The centers meal count is up a considerable amount and we are enjoying serving the needs of our local seniors.

We currently serve an average of 65 meals a day, in addition to that we offer a Thursday night dinner and that alone averages 75 people.
Donations to the center will not only help the center but will also allow an advertising option for you as our donors will have their advertisements placed on a wall in the center dining room. Please see the attached donation form for further information on this.
The Powell County Senior Center and the Senior Citizens of our area thank you for your consideration in this matter.

The Montana Chamber is coming to Deer Lodge this Wednesday!!

November 27, 9:00 am at the Pen Convention Center, 925 Main Street, Deer Lodge

All businesses are invited to attend for a short one-hour program, networking, refreshments, and door prizes!

Health care costs continue to be the “major pocket book concern” of Montana voters, according to the annual Power-Base (P-Base) survey.  Affordable Care Act (ACA), marketplace, navigators and exchanges have now become part of everyday conversations.  The ACA has led to business changes as well, including for the Montana Chamber Choices program.  We will be endorsing health coverage by Associated Employers beginning January 1, 2014.

While health care is on everybody’s mind, it is just one factor in the business world.  This and other issues will be addressed by Montana Chamber of Commerce staff when they close the office for a few days for the semi-annual Montana Business Agenda Tour.  Tour stops have been scheduled November 25-27 in almost thirty cities across the Treasure State.  President/CEO Webb Brown invites all members and business owners to attend.  “Gauging local perspectives assists us in setting priorities and we have learned that the best way to do that is not through phone calls or tracking the news, but to travel the state and hear directly from those invested in the business climate of Montana”, Brown said.

This tour is also an opportunity for Chamber staff to provide updates and information on the many successful programs we offer, the benefits of membership, healthcare concerns, and legislative issues.

Good News from the Ranch. Now that the Government Shutdown is over, the Grant-Kohrs Ranch is open for Visitors just in time for this Sundays popular event.

Grant-Kohrs Ranch

Sunday October 20th 2013 from 1 pm – 4 pm

Pumpkins come from the New Rockport Hutterite Colony and are paid for by the
Powell County Chamber of Commerce and Northwestern Energy.

Press Release from the Ranch:

Harvest of Fun at Grant-Kohrs Ranch

Pumpkin Sunday

It’s a harvest celebration for children and adults alike on October 20, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site in Deer Lodge.

We are happy to be back at work serving the American people and excited to welcome the community back to America’s ranch.
Children will be busy with the cider press while teens and adults learn the art of wheat weaving.  After the annual dash through the pumpkin patch in search of the perfect pumpkin, youngsters twelve and under can paint their finds. There will be lots to do for visitors of all ages. Other games and activities will include a hay maze, wagon rides, making leaf masks and Scavenger Hunt Bingo. A bonfire will take the chill off the day and provide a chance for the microwave generation to learn how corn was popped in the Good Old Days.

The ranch celebrates the open range cattle era, with original buildings ranging from the 1862 bunkhouse to the 1935 blacksmith shop. Tours of the elegant ranch house will be given.

Admission to the ranch is always free, but as is traditional during special events, canned goods for the Deer Lodge Food Pantry will be welcome.

Call (406) 846-2070 or visit www.nps.gov/grko for more information.
