On Friday 16th March from 1 pm till 7 pm there will be a DUI/Driving while Texting simulator at the New Fire Hall (behind City Hall on Cottonwood)

From 3 till 6 pm there is a book signing at Browsing Bison books at 515 Main. Tim Saylor and George Wyant from Anaconda will be signing copies of their book ‘Treasure Hunting with Team ATC’

At 7:30 pm at the Cutler Brothers Productions Theater at 301 Main, CBP will be showing their 2006 movie ‘Going Nowhere’. Tickets are $5 each.

On Sunday 18th March, a Pancake Breakfast will be served at the Powell County Senior Center, 100 Missouri Ave. from 9 am till 1 pm – Adults $5, Children under 10 $3

Also on Sunday, Cutler Brothers will be holding auditions for their musical ‘Oliver’, from 1 pm in the music room of E.F. DuVall Junior High School.

According to the program description ‘Ringy and KG are headed to an old prison in Montana to help the local museum curator uncover buried treasure. The shuttered prison has remained unopened for decades, but it once held some of the most notorious outlaws of the Old West. Who knows what the boys will find that once belonged to the prisons infamous residents. Contraband? Bullets? A shank?’.

Tune in this evening to see what treasures they unearthed. This show is repeated today at 10 pm, and also on Saturday 3rd March at 8 pm and 11 pm, Sunday 4th March at 9 pm and on Tuesday 6th March at 4 pm.

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest has released the Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Revised DEIS) for the East Deer Lodge Valley Landscape Restoration Management Project.  The 45-day comment period will begin the day after the Notice of Availability (NOA) is published in the Federal Register. The anticipated publication date of the NOA is January 27, 2012.

The Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest (BDNF) will host an open house Thu. Feb. 2 from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Deer Lodge at the Community Center located at 419 Cottonwood.  The open house will provide an opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the East Deer Lodge Valley (EDLV) Landscape Restoration Management Project and the Revised DEIS. There will also be opportunity for community members to comment on the project and identify any data gaps or unaddressed concerns during the open house.

The EDLV project area covers 39,700 acres of Forest Service system lands on the east side of the Deer Lodge Valley from Baggs Creek to Girard Gulch.  Specific treatments would include conducting commercial salvage with clearcut and/or commercial thinning in 57 timber units totaling up to 2,705 acres; conducting vegetation and aquatic treatments in 19 restoration units totaling up to 8,768 acres; and conducting additional vegetation, aquatic, and recreation activities throughout the project area in areas not specifically tied to timber or restoration units.  The BDNF proposes to utilize stewardship contracting to implement the EDLV Landscape Restoration Management project.

The EDLV project is the result of several years of collaborative efforts between the USFS, state, local, and non-governmental agencies to identify and plan for an integrated forest stewardship and watershed restoration project in this area which is complimentary to restoration projects that have occurred within the landscape on state and private lands.  EDLV project partners include: Watershed Restoration Coalition, Montana Wilderness Association, Montana Trout Unlimited, Headwaters Resource Conservation and Development, National Wildlife Federation, Clark Fork Coalition, Sun Mountain Lumber, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, MT FWP, and Powell County Commissioners.

Grant-Kohrs Ranch Victorian Holiday:

The Victorian Holiday Open House will be from 1 pm till 4 pm. The elegant 1862 Kohrs family ranch house will be decorated in the style of a Victorian Christmas. Activities include house tours, wagon rides, blacksmithing, children’s crafts and activities with assorted refreshments.

Parade of Lights:

The Parade will start down Main Street at 6 pm. This year’s theme is ‘Home Town Christmas’. The Parade will form on Second Street by NAPA at 5:30 pm and will enter Main Street on Cottonwood Ave. It will proceed south along Main Street ending at Montana Ave where it will disband. NO CANDY THROWING FROM THE FLOATS please. However, helpers can hand out candy from baskets whilst walking alongside the Parade. All businesses, individuals and families are invited to enter the Parade, just ensemble on Second Street by NAPA before 6 pm. Those judged to be the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd best in parade will be awarded a Chamber Gift Certificate, handed out to winners at the Christmas tree.

Christmas Tree Lighting:

The official Lighting of the Deer Lodge Christmas Tree will take place immediately following on from the Parade of Lights beside the Post Office.
