It’s a busy day here in Deer Lodge.

On Friday 16th March from 1 pm till 7 pm there will be a DUI/Driving while Texting simulator at the New Fire Hall (behind City Hall on Cottonwood)

From 3 till 6 pm there is a book signing at Browsing Bison books at 515 Main. Tim Saylor and George Wyant from Anaconda will be signing copies of their book ‘Treasure Hunting with Team ATC’

At 7:30 pm at the Cutler Brothers Productions Theater at 301 Main, CBP will be showing their 2006 movie ‘Going Nowhere’. Tickets are $5 each.

On Sunday 18th March, a Pancake Breakfast will be served at the Powell County Senior Center, 100 Missouri Ave. from 9 am till 1 pm – Adults $5, Children under 10 $3

Also on Sunday, Cutler Brothers will be holding auditions for their musical ‘Oliver’, from 1 pm in the music room of E.F. DuVall Junior High School.

Territorial Days Rod Run

The Sun is shinning,  temperatures are climbing and Summer is officially here. Time for a Parade!

The 22nd Annual Territorial Days Celebration in Deer Lodge begins with the Prison Break Run, sponsored by the Deer Lodge Athletic Association, starting at 8 am outside Mountain Man Trading Post on Main Street. Contact Candace Miller at 846-1191 for more information.

The Mike Walsh Memorial Wood Bat Tournament is taking place from 9 am till 9 pm at the American Legion Field at Jaycee Park. Featuring teams from Deer Lodge, Anaconda, Salmon, Helena, Mission Valley, Belgrade and Great Falls, games continue on Sunday at 9 am.

Show N Shine/ Top 20 Pick Awards registration take place in the Old Prison Yard from 9 am till 11 am. Entry is $18 for your 1st car, $5 for your 2nd and subsequent cars. Entrants receive a goodie bag with Dash Plaque, water bottle, a free pass to the Museums, local information and other freebies. Plus a chance to win one of our trophies (a set of stainless steel travel mugs).

Also taking place in the Old Montana Prison is the Annual Weapons Collectors Society of Montana Gun Show,  starting at 9 am. Admission is $5 for adults, pass is valid from Friday through Sunday and is good for the Gun Show and all Museums.

The Territorial Days Parade starts at 11:30 am on Main Street alongside the Old Montana Prison. Congratulations to Therese Hunt on being voted this years ‘Grand Marshall’. If you are not part of the Rod Run and wish to join the Parade, please enter at the corner of Pennsylvania and Main (by Scharfs Restaurant). The Pioneer Power and Tractor Association Antique Tractor Show will be on Main Street after the Parade.

This year, the Show N Shine entrants will turn around at Cottonwood (not the usual turn-around at California/Pizza Hut), and then line up along Main Street. The ‘Top 20’, as voted for by the  entrants themselves, will receive a trophy. For the first time a ‘Peoples Choice’ award will also be presented. Vote by placing your entry form in the box on the Chamber of Commerce table next to the stage. Cash prizes will be presented for the Parade, in the categories ‘Crowd Pleaser’, ‘Kids’, ‘Animal’, Business’ and ‘Organization’, winners judged by a panel of experts.

Jaywalkers Jamboree will then commence, with vendors along Main Street selling everything from food and drink to jewelry, clothing, toys, craft items, etc. Contact Therese Hunt at Lickety Print on 846-3455 for vendor space.

At 1 pm the Texaco Country Showdown will start on the  stage at Missouri and Main. Call Bob Toole at KQRV 96.9 FM the river on 846-1100 for details on how to enter.

‘SHORT NOTICE’ will be performing on stage at 7 pm for our Free Street Dance, until 11 pm.

Christmas Stroll Weekend – December 3rd to 5th

Santa’s Visit: Friday and Saturday December 3rd and 4th

A little bit of the North Pole will be arriving in Deer Lodge on Friday 3rd December. Santa will be at the Pen Convention Center on Main Street from 5pm till 7pm. Helpers will be on hand to give out candy and other goodies. On Saturday December 4th 2010, Santa will be strolling along Main Street.

Christmas Festival: Friday December 3rd

Powell County Museum & Arts Foundation is once again sponsoring the Holiday Festival Celebration. Starting at 7pm, there will be silent and live auctions (including decorated trees, table decorations, etc.), live music, food and drinks. Santa will make a special appearance at 9pm, drawing the winning ticket for the 1965 Mustang Raffle Car. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. These events will be held at the Pen Convention Center on Main Street and are FREE.

Stroll Buttons

Stroll Buttons will be on sale at Keystone Drug & Gifts, Valley Foods, ACE Hardware, MRC, Cattail Co. Floral & Gifts, Old Prison Museum Gift Shop, J & J Variety, Greany’s Dry Goods and the Powell County Senior Citizen Center. Buttons cost $2 each and are numbered, providing over 100 opportunities for the wearer to win prizes and Gift Certificates. During the Stroll, button wearers can visit local businesses, and if they find their button number matches the number in the store they will be given a prize. Some merchants have Stroll Numbers drawn each week, so be sure to visit them regularly up until Christmas. Don’t forget, Button numbers will be called out during the Christmas Stroll, giving you a chance to win Chamber Gift Certificates valued up to $100!

Christmas Stroll: Saturday December 4th

The Christmas Stroll will take place on Main Street between 2pm till 7pm. There will be two drawings for Chamber Gift Certificates, based upon stroll number buttons purchased by participants. The first drawing will be held in front of Greany’s Dry Goods at 3:30pm, the second will be held at the Community Christmas Tree in front of the Post Office directly after the Parade of Lights. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN. Three blocks of the central business district (300, 400, 500) will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Parade of Lights: Saturday December 4th

The Parade will start down Main Street at 6pm. This year’s theme is ‘Rock & Roll Christmas’. The Parade will form at 5:30pm on Second Street by NAPA, and will enter Main Street on California Ave. It will proceed south along Main Street ending at Montana Ave where it will disband. There will be NO CANDY THROWING FROM THE FLOATS. However, Elves will hand out candy from baskets whilst walking alongside the Parade. There will be trophies awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best in parade, and the Old Montana Prison will award a free family or business membership to whomever knocks them out of second place!

Christmas Tree Lighting: Saturday December 4th

The official Lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place immediately following on from the Parade of Lights at approximately 7pm, on the grounds of the Post Office. This is when the second drawing for Chamber Gift Certificates will take place.

There will be a $25 and $50 gift certificate drawing in front of Greany’s Dry Goods store at 3:30pm. The second set of drawings, for $25, $50 and $100 Chamber Gift Certificates, will take place after the Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree at the Post Office, following the Parade of Lights. Remember, you must have a Stroll Button and be present to stand a chance of winning.

Grant-Kohrs Ranch Victorian Holiday: Sunday December 5th

The Victorian Holiday Open House will be from 1pm till 4pm. The elegant 1862 Kohrs family ranch house will be decorated in the style of a Victorian Christmas. Activities include house tours, wagon rides, blacksmithing, children’s crafts and activities with assorted refreshments. The Hamilton ACappella Society will be performing, and Santa will be making an appearance. For more information, please call (406) 846-2070

Christmas Cash

Interest free loans, up to $2000, will be available from Peoples Bank, Pioneer Federal Savings & Loan, and First Security Bank. A fee of $10 is due at the time of application. Christmas Cash loans will be available starting November 15th. The customer presenting Christmas Cash for a purchase MUST sign the front of the cash where indicated. Cash may be used at any participating business. Merchants will need to endorse the back of the Cash and deposit with their bank. The Cash is then redeemed with a 3% discount. Businesses that are not Chamber Members are invited to participate in the Christmas Cash program for a fee of $25. This fee is to cover the expenses of printing the money and for part of the advertising.
